ARTIST STATEMENT
The latest work of Horses not only evolved through my work as Equine Therapist, but means that I have now come full circle. Having owned Horses in the distant past, I credit those early experiences as a rider with the horse, which taught me the 'Non-verbal' communication that later led me to becoming not only the Art Therapist, but eventually carrying over into Equine Therapy. Now, as a full-time artist, I am reconnecting with the inner beauty, unconditional love which the horse so freely gives. The paintings are in honor of that healing spirit and my love for them.
Again, the material used is watercolour, inks, pastels, and graphite.
New creations are works produced on Mylar, incorporating mixed media, i.e. working with oils, watercolour, inks, transfers, also including textured materials. This transparent material allows for the manipulation of images on both sides, creating double images or positive and negatives at the same time. The result has been the Forest and Seascapes Series.
Expressing myself and the world around me through drawing and painting has been a “Leitfaden” throughout my life. My background as a cartographer, interior designer and Art Therapist, all have influenced the style and images of my work. This found expression in the geometrically ordered, aesthetically pleasing, or ultimately organic images.
What has always captured and driven my interest in art has been to express how and what we feel, in an abstract manner. It is a representation of nature and the feeling our experience of nature evoke. The medium used evolved from oils to watercolour to mixed media, encaustic and the use of mylar. Working and experimenting in different media has been an exploration and discovery. The exploration has led to creating ways of using layers upon layers of colours and textures to convey inner dispositions in an abstract manner, allowing the viewer to experience his or her unique emotional reaction to the art itself.
The Heather Series, using watercolour and encaustic, are representing an undulation, isolation and shifting of perspectives. These images vacillate between abstraction and representation, evoking metaphorical scenic interpretations. This shift between abstract and representational images has become a constant motive in the work produced through the applications of mixed media, mylar and encaustic images.
